10 Horror TV Shows Where The Hero Became The Villain

5. Stranger Things - Henry Creel/One/Vecna

Will Graham Hannibal
Netflix

This entry may seem mildly erroneous considering Stranger Things' biggest, baddest villain was as evil as Satan from the very beginning. However, through the child's eyes of a young Eleven, Jamie Campbell Bower's One initially appeared to be a knight in shining armor. Unlike the relentlessly unpleasant test subjects at Hawkins Lab, the shy orderly is kind and gentle to El, even aiding her in an attempt to escape the facility.

However, once El removes an implant holding his telekinetic powers in check, all hell is swiftly let loose. One proceeds to murder every person in the facility bar Eleven, before revealing the true extent of his unhinged state of mind with a doomsday monologue that would put Lex Luthor to shame. One is unmasked as Henry Creel, a depraved adolescent killer who framed his father for the murders of his mother and sister and hellbent on world domination .

While Eleven's powers allow her to banish Creel to the Upside Down in this particular confrontation, One isn't done with his slide into supervillain territory. The injured villain proceeds to take control of the nightmarish alternate universe and completes his transformation into Vecna - the terrifying lead antagonist of Season 4, revealed to have masterminded the hellish events within Hawkins from the very beginning.

The irony that the final boss of one of the greatest horror shows of all time appeared to be a hero in the first instance is not lost on this writer in the slightest.
