10 Horror TV Shows Where The Hero Became The Villain
4. Squid Game - Oh Il-nam
"Do you know what someone with no money has in common with someone with too much money? Living is no fun for them."
Survival horror Squid Game's Oh Il-nam had the majority of audiences completely fooled. There appeared to be absolutely no debate that this sweet old man was a hero in every sense of the word.
Terminal brain cancer and dementia be damned, this was an individual who appeared determined to win the nightmarish game of survival in which he found himself entrenched, despite the monumental odds stacked against him.
Oh Il-nam emphasized his status as a hero even further with his apparent demise, seemingly sacrificing himself to save lead protagonist Gi-Hun - even after revealing that he was aware of the latter's attempts to use his dementia against him in order to win the latest game. Against the hellish backdrop of Squid Game's unforgiving universe, this eccentric old man appeared to be the closest available parallel to a guardian angel.
That is of course, until the first season's thunderous finale unmasked Oh Il-Nam for what he truly was. Not only did the old man survive, he is revealed to be the despicable architect of the entire barbaric game - masterminding and hosting the ruthless contests for decades in the search of the same excitement he found in his youth. A sociopathic individual of the highest order, and one of the most abrupt hero to villain turns in recent memory.
