10 How I Met Your Mother Moments That Prove Ted Is A Total Jerk
4. Pressuring Robin
Ted and Robin, the supposed great love story of How I Met Your Mother, are not a good couple. This is perhaps most clearly demonstrated in season two episode “Stuff”, in which Ted’s insecurity leads him to badger Robin into giving up her pet dogs.
That’s not entirely fair on Ted. He does so after Robin realises how many of his possessions were gifts from past relationships and makes Ted get rid of them. But Ted’s retribution seems way out of whack. He seems unable to comprehend the difference between chucking out old material possessions and giving up your pet dogs, and takes a sinister glee in forcing Robin to comply with his ruling.
Neither party behaves particularly well here (nor throughout the majority of their relationship), but Ted takes the biscuit here. He cuts a remarkably pushy figure throughout the entirety of their relationship. He’s happy to use pressure and perseverance to get what he wants, and for the most part it seems to work out fine for him. Rather than Robin seeing through his nice guy persona, she ends the episode moving in with him.
