6. The Return Of Susan
The name-dropping of Susan in The Devil's Chord led many people to believe that the Doctor's granddaughter would return in the finale, and she was also put forward as a strong contender to be Ruby's mother.
Of course, it was all a red herring, but RTD did still leave the idea of the Doctor and Susan reuniting up in the air at the end of Empire of Death. So expect another eight episodes of Susan speculation in 2025!
Going back a year earlier, various leaks and rumours for the 60th anniversary specials also mentioned that Susan was involved, but of course, it wasn't to be.
The desire for Susan's return goes back way further than that. During his tenure, Peter Capaldi expressed interest in reuniting the Doctor with his granddaughter. The jokey references to the Doctor being Bill's granddad (and the photo of Susan on his desk) only served to fuel speculation.
Susan was also anticipated to return in Twice Upon a Time, which saw the Twelfth Doctor meet the First – that was until Bill, not Susan, emerged from the shadows aboard the Testimony's ship.
