The arrival of countless villains from The Phantom Zone gives Kara someone new to fight each week, but hopefully they're not all as forgettable as Vartox. He's actually based on an obscure villain known as The Lumberjack, which is why he wields an axe. This is an alien axe though, and that's pretty much all he has in common with his comic book counterpart. That's really no big deal though, especially as The Lumberjack has only a single appearance to his name. The choice of name is interesting though, especially as fans will know Vartox as an ally to Superman who at one point became obsessed with Power Girl (an alternate reality version of Supergirl). After being defeated by Supergirl, the villain kills himself anyway. Despite how forgettable he is, Vartox's two fight scenes with Supergirl are anything but. It's admittedly a little strange how she goes from being helpless in their first battle to taking him down with relative ease in their second encounter, but it's awesome nonetheless.
