10 Hugely Underrated Fantasy TV Shows From The Last Decade

9. Legend Of The Seeker (2008-2010)

ABC

Legend of the Seeker is definitely not ashamed of its sword and sorcery heritage. It embraces almost every fantasy cliché out there: there's a wise wizard, a farm boy who becomes a hero, a magic sword, an evil king, a tribe of warrior women, and not an episode goes by when someone doesn't wear inappropriate clothing for battle.

Nonetheless, it is stylish and entertaining and accumulated a devoted fan base whose campaign still couldn't save the show from cancellation in 2010. Although none of its characters are particularly original, they're all engaging and likeable, so even if you find yourself experiencing déjà vu you can't help but enjoy it.

The villain, Darken Rahl (really), is played with relish by Craig Parker and is deliciously and ridiculously evil, and the show knows it €“- he murders a kitten in one episode. The fight choreography is absolutely fantastic and the balance between humour and relationship angst is thankfully weighed towards the former. Legend of the Seeker isn't a challenging show, which is why it received a lukewarm reception, but it is a fun one.
