10 Incredible Similarities Between Doctor Who And Sherlock
9. Deduction and Mystery
The creators of Sherlock would probably tell you that their show, the show that's captured hearts both sides of the Atlantic on Tumblr and beyond, isn't really a detective show. It's just a show about a detective. And actually, that's pretty much what Steven Moffat has made Doctor Who. Under Russell T Davies the Doctor got caught up in adventure, but under Moffat, the Doctor looks for adventure. You only have to look at why the Doctor lets Clara or Amy on board the TARDIS: there's a mystery there. He found the cracks in time, and he had to investigate. He received a message from River to come to the Library, so he went there to investigate too. It's the same with the time windows in 'The Girl in the Fireplace', the Pandorica and it's why he always picks inquisitive young people to travel with. The Doctor is as much the detective as Sherlock Holmes is. The difference between Moffat's Doctor and Davies's, is that Moffat's knows where he's going, he just doesn't know what he'll find when he gets there. And it's the same with Sherlock; he loves to uncover a mystery, he lives for the crime scene, and it's solving the cases that drives him.
