4. Next!
In 2001 Fox approached Bob Odenkirk to develop a sketch comedy series for them. The result was, as you'd expect, extremely similar to Mr. Show in tone and style, despite the fact that David Cross was nowhere to be seen within the project. Now, you'd assume that if only half the team that produced one of the all-time great cult sketch comedy shows was employed, the product you'd wind up with - though likely leaps and bounds ahead of the competition would still only be half as good as a show produced by the full team? Well, Odenkirk side-stepped this little failing by simply stuffing the pilot episode of "Next!" up to the gills with some of the best alternative comedy talent in operation, with the likes of Misters Fred Armisen, Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt, Bill Hader and Zach Galifianakis all featuring within the pilot episode. Despite an extremely strong first episode and cast, Fox ultimately passed on Next! (obviously, otherwise, why the hell would I be talking about it here?). The episode has since emerged online and received something of a micro-cult following all of its own... And yes, pedantic masses, I realise that still up there is in fact from Breaking Bad.
