10. Prue Halliwell Charmed
Shannen Doherty was one of the biggest TV stars of the 90s; she was also notorious for her involvement in various off-screen problems which led to the actresses early departure from both of her hit shows. She made her name in what many consider to be the prototypical teen drama (though Degrassi fans would argue differently) Beverly Hills 90210. She played Brenda Walsh who along with her twin Brandon, attempted to adjust to the glamorous lifestyle of Beverly Hills. The series was a hit but after four seasons Doherty and the character of Brenda were written out of the Aaron Spelling-produced series and she never returned to the original show which concluded its ten season run in 2000. The reason for her departure has been attributed to bad relations with several of her cast mates, but for whatever the reason Aaron Spelling was seemingly happy enough to leave them in the past when he later cast her as one of the three leads in another of his shows Charmed. Though not quite on the same level as 90210, Charmed was also successful especially for a show on the WB network but backstage tensions would again lead to an early exit for Shannen Doherty and her character. Reportedly due to tensions with co-star, Alyssa Milano, Doherty was again written out of a hit show early in its run. After first contemplating recasting the role of Prue even approaching Doherty's 90210 replacement Tiffani Thissen it was decided that the character would be killed off and a long-lost sister would take her place in the show. Prues death comes at the end of the third season when shes thrown through a wall by a rather a lame looking demon named Shax. The next season picks up with the confirmation of Prues passing and her sisters have to plan her funeral. The power of three is soon restored however, after the discovery of a fourth sister, and Dohertys replacement Paige Matthews. After three years of battling demonic villains, this was it? I get that she couldnt be shipped off to London like Brenda, but Prue being killed by a wall simply didnt cut it.
