Attack On Titan is 3 things above all else: Over the top to an insane degree, intensely action packed and above all else, Epic. The introduction to the first series has all of these things in abundance, begining with an eneretic cry of Sie Sind Das Essen Und Wir Sind Die Jaeger, German for you are the prey and we are the hunters. Immediately following this comes the dramatic orchestral chanting, accompanying string instruments, shifting into edgy lyrics detailing the conflict with the Titans.
The intro is designed to get you hyped, to put you in the mindset of Eren Jaeger and the rest of Survey Corps. You feel every swing of their grapnels, every death in their ranks, every Titan kill, because you are firing high on their level. Every viewer sits to watch an episode as is immediately ready for action, which Attack On Titan Has in plenty.
Anime has a tendency to change themes between seasons, often evolving with the changing story and tone of the series. In some cases this is a wonderful change, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood for example having terrible themes until season four.
