4. Star Trek The Next Generation - Set Phasers To Fabulous

Fresh Prince Of Bel Air
CBS

Star Trek is, and has always been a grand scale show which asks bold philosophical questions of its' audience. More than just a series of battles in space, characters like Picard, Data and Worf always brought a more nuanced edge to their universe. So how do the creators give this impression in a brief thirty second intro. Quite successfully actually.

The show begins with the universally recognisable voice of Patrick Stewart as the brilliant Captain Jean-Luc Picard, reitterating the Star Trek mantra, of the final frontier of space, that the Enterprise exists to boldly go where no one has gone before. The basic premise set in stone, the ship warps away to phenomenal brass instrumentals.

Classical, epic and exactly in keeping with the tones grand premises, you feel drawn in by Picard's commanding tones, only to be enthusiastically livened up by the orchestra. Not enough TV themes these days use a proper orchestra or brass sections, and I for one think that is a miserable indicator of our modern times.
