6. Job Finder
It's 4 am. It's circa 1989. You have had a few bevvies and you are channel surfing, frantically hoping for something that isn't pure tedium or the Test Card. The best thing on TV is... Job Finder. Job Finder was shown in most of the ITV regions. It was made like teletext pages and it offered up viewers jobs that were looking to be filled in their region. It was on at 4 am presumably both as a time filler and also because the TV authorities maybe thought that unemployed people sat up all night because they have nothing better to do. Most of the jobs were for chefs and HGV operators. It was accompanied by some very nice and mellow muzak. I always thought it would be funny for unemployed people to turn up late at the dole office and say "Sorry but I was up late watching Job Finder and I slept in". I wish they would restore it to ITV - I need my muzak fix, plus I'm thinking of branching out into catering.
