10 Late Night TV Shows From Back In The Day

4. The Midnight Caller

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7LLZzQuRMc Originally running from 1988-1991, Gary Cole stars as Jack Killian - a former police man who accidentally shot his partner dead and quit the force. He sinks into the mire of alcoholism until he receives a phone call from a manager of a radio station - Devon King. She wants Jack to do a night time programme as the Night Hawk - a persona that solves people's problems through detective work, Poor Jack had a hard time of it during the series. He frequently comes across his less than thrilled to see him ex police colleagues in the work he does. He had a lot of personal problems with his father and messed up siblings. He never got to resolve his relationship with Devon either. She had a baby by an other man and sold the station - thus ending the series. Midnight Caller was quite an absorbing little drama series that was frequently played in late night television line ups in ITV franchises all across the country. It tackled heavy subject matter with child abuse, AIDs and capital punishment but ultimately the show was left bereft of viewers and was cancelled. Classic Late Night TV fare.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
