10 Lost Doctor Who Episodes We'll Never See
1. The Daleks' Master Plan
Season 3’s epic Dalek showdown is the largest Doctor Who serial to date (if you count Trial of a Time Lord as four separate interlinked stories). This story is huge for so many reasons. It saw not only the first, but second companion death of the series, as well as technically featuring the show’s first Christmas episode, with ‘The Feast of Steven’ broadcasting on 25th December 1965. The seventh episode of the serial was made more comedic and lighter compared to the larger grim Dalek serial it was a part of for the festive season, including a fourth wall break.
But that’s not where this serial stops, it also saw the first role for future series regular Nicholas Courtney, as well as the return of the Monk, the first individual villain to rematch with the Doctor.
At present, only episodes two, five and ten still exist in the BBCs archive, leaving a whopping nine episodes of the serial lost. This story was massive, and saw the Doctor and his companions going up against the Daleks and their plan to unleash the Time Destructor.
Even when compared with the modern series, this serial is enormous. In terms of NuWho, twelve classic episodes are equal to six moderns, meaning this serial takes up nearly half a modern series. For its time, this serial was ground-breaking. Arguably classic Daleks at their most dastardly.
If there is any story at the top of a Doctor Who fan's list of stories, they want found, it's this one. This is a serial sorely missed, and would be the biggest shame if we never see it again. As has been shown in the past, we must not lose faith in the hope one days these stories shall come back.
