3. Dynasty The Moldavian Massacre
Glitzy soap opera Dynasty wasnt exactly a normal programme but for a while it refrained from outright lunacy despite having an inordinate number of catfights. But then Season Five along and the show hit new heights of idiocy. Season Five saw a romance between Amanda Carrington and Prince Michael of Moldavia blossom with their wedding in Moldavia being the focus of the season finale. Everything looks like its going to be all hunky dory but just as the service begins, the church is raided by terrorists staging a military coup. The terrorists attack on all sides, including rappelling down from the roof and smashing through the windows like a bad action movie, and use assault rifles while the wedding guests return fire with handguns. After about a minute of constant gunfire, the dust settles to reveal everyone lying on the blood-soaked floor. Even though this scene is widely regarded as an excellent example of a cliffhanger and had viewing figures of 60 million, its still utterly ridiculous in both its concept and how it was realised. But even more ludicrous was the resolution at the start of Season Six which revealed that the assault only killed two characters while the others are held hostage inside the church for the rest of the episode.
