When news first dropped of Marvel Studios' intentions to double-down on their small screen investment, finally committing to genuinely tying in some TV offerings into their already gigantic cinematic universe, more than a few heads were turned at the announcement of one particular hero getting his own Disney+ stage.

While the concept of a whacky supernatural sitcom and game-changing time-meddling trip in WandaVision and Loki, respectively, was enough to guarantee eyes on the streaming service from the get-go, the more traditional feel and less-than-intriguing marketing in the buildup to the late 2021 Hawkeye series ultimately left fans feeling rather indifferent about Clint Barton and Kate Bishop's Christmas adventure. The ones who bothered watching, that is.

The fact Hawkeye's premiere was watched by 40% less folks than the aforementioned Loki's tells you all you need to know about how ready fans were to see this particular Avenger get his moment in the sun. And while the show did offer Jeremy Renner the chance to flex his acting chops a little more than usual in the MCU, $150 million seems like an awful lot of money to splash on a character and concept few have really invested in since it dropped in November.
