10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
7. Pizza Companies Fought Tooth And Nail For Them To Market Their Brand
This is probably one of the least surprising facts, even if you didn't grow up around the advertising that came with the Turtles attached. After all, this was the late eighties and early nineties, right before a certain Reggie we all know and love was about to make his name by putting Pizza Hut back on top of the pizza business with his killer advertising.
So, of course, when the cartoon aired, and especially when the 1990 movie was announced, pizza companies were clamoring for this kind of free advertising. What you probably don't realize - because it involves a lot of finance stuff that's super boring - is just how tooth and nail the biggest pizza chains in America were fighting to have Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael market their pies.
While Pizza Hut ultimately won that battle with a $20 million marketing campaign alongside the film's release, it was Dominos that got name dropped in the actual movie.
All this money and effort so that four guys in suits could pretend to eat melted cheese on bread.
