10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

6. The Actors Who Wore The Suits In The 1990 Movie Lost 20 Lbs Just By Wearing Them

Mini fun fact: the original 1990 movie was only shot in New York for around 4 days. The rest of the production took place in North Carolina. Not a big issue, as this is a common occurrence in film production, but it did lead to a bit of a health complication for the four actors who actually wore the Turtle costumes.

As you can probably imagine just by looking at them, these things were heavy. Sure, they were made by the Jim Henson Company, and all the effort is up there on the screen, but make no mistake, in order to get them to look as great as they did, they had to make them incredibly bulky and hard to operate.

The details of this we'll get into in a bit, but the point here is that, with these heavy suits which did not breathe at all, combined with North Carolina being the closest rival to Florida for simultaneously being unbearably hot and unbearably humid, you can imagine how fun a time the puppeteers wearing the outfits had.

By the end of production, the actors had lost around 9kg, or about 20 pounds of body weight just by wearing the damn things.
