10 MORE Greatest Battles In Star Trek

7. The Living Construct Takes Over

Airing on both Paramount + and Nickelodeon initially, Star Trek: Prodigy was assigned the genre of 'kids show' early on. The thing is - battles like this prove that this is not an accurate label at all. Though certainly true to say that it is 'kid friendly', seeing beloved Starfleet ships infected by, then crippled by, a deadly virus is hardly the family friendly Star Trek we were expecting.

The first part of the finale Supernova sees the Living Construct, a computer virus engineered by The Diviner, finally activate and start to spread. This long-dreaded plot device was promised to destroy Starfleet and, for a time at least, it looks as though it's going to succeed.

As it beings to infect the Starfleet armada, they begin firing on each other. This is not simply a case of a light barrage of phasers knocking on the shields of the ships but a sustained, devastating assault. It is sometimes easy to forget just how much damage phaser fire can do. Here, we see ships being sliced up the middle, burning the poor crews inside to death. Familiar names adorn those vessels - Thunderchild, Sovereign, Centaur, Defiant - and seeing them turn on each other is truly unsettling to watch.

A kids show? We don't think.
