As a pop culture figure, She-Ra has been around for a very long time without really accumulating a significant fan base. Part of the reason being the popularity of her male counterpart He-Man, who has always been the real star of that franchise. However a lot of that changed with the debut of the excellent She Ra and the Princesses of Power.

Here we are introduced to Adora, an orphan who has been born and brought up as a trained fighter serving on the evil Horde army. This kicks of an incredible journey of realizing and then choosing one’s own destiny, as Adora discovers she is the one chosen to wield the Sword of Protection.

Transformed by the sword into the mythical warrior She-Ra, she joins the side of good. Helped along by her best friends and the rest of the magical Princesses, she goes on the warpath against her former employers.

As amazing as that sounds, Adora’s story is so much more. For her it was not a simple case of switching sides. She had to leave behind her past life, her friends, and her childhood love. Worst still, she has to witness said childhood love slowly transform into a genocidal maniac driven mad by Adora’s departure.

Despite all the physical and emotional trauma put before her, She-Ra is always able to rise above her obstacles and save the world.
