4. Nico Robin - One Piece
From cold blooded murderer, to fan-favourite hero, Robin has had one of the best character arcs in all of anime. She started out as an assassin and a lackey to one of the worst human beings in the entire story. However, even when she served the despicable Crocodile and his mission to destroy the people of Alabasta, Robin’s conscience was still alive, as evidenced by her willingness to save Luffy from certain death following his first defeat to the then Warlord of the Sea.
Once she does turn over to the side of good, in a rather odd manner after forcing her way into the Strawhat crew, Robin becomes one of the best things on the show. She brushes aside enemies with a casual smile, makes light of the most complicated of scenarios, and doesn’t get phased by death staring her in the eye.
Her true peak, as well as the Anime’s thus far, came during the Enies Lobby arc. After her tragic backstory is revealed, her emotional core is laid bare for all to see, as she selflessly sacrifices herself so that her friends may live. Of course Luffy and co. weren’t about to let that happen, and proceeded to treat us to one of the best battles and rescue missions in television history.
