10 Most Bizarre Commercials Ever

This bizarre advert seemed like it was baiting controversy, aiming for notorious infamy. Given it came out 14 years ago and is still talked about, it seems like it accomplished that goal, although it was eventually banned.

The commercial features a group of friends around a table as one grabs a bag of Nik Naks and digs in. He starts to cough and convulse but everyone thinks he’s faking it, until he collapses onto the table. In a puff of orange smoke, a huge Nik Nak bursts out of him like that John Hurt scene in Alien.

Don’t worry about him too much though. In a few seconds he starts dancing to ‘Freak Out!’ along with the little Nik Nak. His friends look on disgusted, and so do most viewers.

It’s so mind boggling why these adverts work. Yeah, they stick in your head but who wants to be associated with an angry alien life form bursting out of you? That scene was literally designed by Alien writer Dan O’Bannon as the scariest thing imaginable. Not the kind of thing you’d usually expect to sell cheesy snacks. It’s edgy, it’s gross, it’s undeniably bizarre.
