10 Most Controversial Changes Made In Arrowverse Shows
7. Constantine No Longer Smokes
A chain smoker by his very nature, John Constantine is renowned for lighting up a cigarette the moment that things get stressful for him - and when you're a long-established demon hunter, Master of the Dark Arts and Warlock with your soul destined for Hell, you can rest assured that things get pretty stressful for Johnny C quite a lot. In spite of all that, don't be expecting to see the Arrowverse's live-action iteration smoking anytime soon.
While Matt Ryan's portrayal of the character did pick up the habit in the short-lived NBC series and maintain it when he first debuted on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, it appears that he'll no longer be doing so, as the character is doing all that he can in order to slow down the porgression of his fated 10-year battle with lung cancer.
The sudden change might rub some people up the wrong way, but it's actually a highly forgivable one since it fits into the storyline rather well. And, more than anything, Ryan has done such an exceptional job of bringing the character to life that he never needed to be seen smoking in order to be a great Constantine - so, cigarettes or no cigarettes, that ain't changing anytime soon.
