10 Most Disturbing Stargate Moments

8. Tollanna Is Destroyed

The earlier years of Stargate SG-1 displayed the Goa'uld to be greatly feared throughout the galaxy. However, there was a certain level of proving this not to be the case - SG-1 continually managed to defeat them at almost every turn! Within a few short years, Ra, Apophis, Cronus and Heru'er were all deposed or killed. Frankly, it was getting a little difficult to take the Goa'uld seriously!

And then Anubis arrived.

Before the name of this new foe had been revealed, he began to spread his influence throughout the galaxy. He possessed Ancient knowledge, giving him a significant advantage over many other worlds and races. One such race was the Tollan.

They were effectively an advanced race of Humans. Their technical knowledge far outstripped that of Earth and they even managed to construct their own Stargate on a new homeworld. They also had a strict policy of not sharing technology so, when they approached the SGC with an offer to open talks for trade, this was both seen as a brilliant step forward, though a confusing one.

They were being coerced. One of Anubis's ships had proven itself able to withstand fire from their weapons, something no Goa'uld vessel had previously managed. Under threat of destruction, they agreed to trick the humans long enough for Anubis to send devastating weapons through the gate.

With help from Narim, a Tollan with whom Carter was close, SG-1 managed to escape the planet as Anubis began to fire on the population. After their arrival home, SG-1 could only listen in horror to a message sent by Narim - the Gate was destroyed, the escape ships were being shot down as they tried to flee...and then the message cuts out.
