10 Most Emotional Moments On The Walking Dead

Who knew a zombie apocalypse would be so miserable?

The Walking Dead Romance
AMC

Boy that Walking Dead sure can be rough viewing at times, right? Season seven opened with arguably the most traumatising hour of TV drama ever broadcast – it’s certainly up there - and it looks set to continue riding the misery train for the foreseeable future.

At this point fans who’ve been following since the beginning are feeling as bruised and battered as the survivors, having watched them survive walker hordes, emotional reunions and tragic death. Lots and lots of tragic death. It’s so oppressive at times it can be hard to remember why we watch it all, but in the end it comes down to the characters. We feel their victories and failures in equal amounts, and that’s why people keep tuning in week after week.

Get ready for some rough sailing as we recount some of the most emotional scenes on The Walking Dead to date; from the handful of happy moments to the endless cycle of death.

10. Finding Sophia

The Walking Dead Romance
AMC

The Walking Dead is no stranger to extending a storyline past its natural lifespan, and season two set the tone for this with the near endless quest for Sophia, Carol’s daughter. The gang searched high and low, and all that trekking around the forest felt endless.

To the show’s credit, they sure paid it off well, with Shane opening up Hershel’s barn to let out the secret stash of walker’s held there, and proceeding to blow them away. After the gunfire settled one last zombie shambled out, and they’re stunned to see it’s Sophia.

Since this was still in the early days of the show there was hope she might be found. The Walking Dead is the show where hope goes to die – and technically come back to life - and this was an early hint of things to come.
