10 Most Expensive TV Shows Of All Time
1. The Pacific - $20-27 Million Per Episode
The Pacific is the companion show to Band of Brothers, following the story of 3 marines fighting in the Pacific Theatre rather than in Europe during The Second World War. The show followed 3 different marines, allowing for stories from multiple regiments to be told, rather than just focusing on one company as Band of Brothers had done.
The show was based on two memoirs by soldiers who fought in The Pacific Theatre, With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. with Sledge and Leckie being two of the 3 marines focused on in the show.
The miniseries was supposed to cost $100 million but ended up costing at least double that with the budget being reported as $270 million by The Sydney Morning Herald. Like Band of Brothers, this budget went into recreating the setting of WWII-era Japanese battlefields, a feat not entirely easy considering the show was filmed in Australia.
The show was an incredible success with wide critical acclaim and a number of awards including 8 Emmys out of 25 nominations, including a win for outstanding miniseries. The show achieved its own slice of history, becoming the most expensive miniseries ever made.
