10 Most Hated Battlestar Galactica Episodes

1. Black Market - Season 2, Episode 14

Right off the bat, Black Market commits one of the biggest mistakes of the series. It kills Commander Fisk, who at this point was our sole remaining connection to the Pegasus. Apollo is tasked to investigate Fisk’s death and discovers he was connected to a Black Market led by Phelan, who makes sensible arguments for the existence of the black market and seems like a logical man. This is undercut when it's revealed that he's trafficking innocent children to paedophiles for some cheap heat from the audience.

On top of that, there is also Lee’s ponderous backstory to get through. It turns out he has a prostitute lover named Shevon, while flashbacks show his pre-Cylon relationship with some mystery woman. Both become repetitive really quick while adding nothing to Lee’s character.

What’s so regrettable is that the premise makes so much sense. A black market is something that would naturally emerge in a society facing extreme shortages. All that is squandered, and we instead get a boring Lee backstory, basic procedural storytelling, and a huge early mistake that would weaken future episodes. It’s a wasted opportunity that we would gladly trade away.
