10 Most Heartwarming Moments In How I Met Your Mother

For years, our favourite New Yorkers made us smile and broke our hearts...

How I Met Your Mother
CBS

Over the course of its nine-season run, How I Met Your Mother left us with many strong moments. The story of five friends going through life together in New York City, the story was both emotional and inspirational in many ways.

While the show's initial focus was on Ted, and his story in meeting his future wife and the mother of his children, it also developed many sub-plots around the other main characters. As well as looking at Ted's dating life, we saw Lily and Marshall get engaged, temporarily split, marry and start a family. We also watched Barney grow from a womanizer into a committed married man, and we saw how Robin went from being obsessed with her career to realising the greatest things in her life were family and friends.

For a show that's really about growing and learning about life at its core, its hard to choose out all the key heartwarming moments. We've given it a go though, so here's the top ten...

10. Victoria Baked The Cake

Long before the show became the sitcom juggernaut it is today, the first season focused on Ted's efforts to get with Robin, who continuously rejects him because he is more committed to having a relationship than her.

Then, at the halfway point of the season, Ted meets Victoria at a wedding, and the pair instantly hit it off. She seems like a much more suitable match for our main man - more invested emotionally and upbeat than Robin's elegant coolness - and at one point, it was reported the producers had her in mind for the mother if the show only lasted a single season.

However, Victoria won't reveal any other details to Ted apart from her first name, so they can only enjoy one single night of romance. Ted later realises he's made a mistake in not finding out more, and the gang scramble to figure out her identity. They eventually figure out she was the caterer at the wedding, and they track down her bakery. As Ted walks through the door, she says, 'Thank God!', also realising her mistake, and they kiss.

While there was of course later heartbreak to come, this was the first time Ted had found any happiness since the show began, and at that point it was the perfect love story as the pair embraced and declared their affection for each other.
