10 Most Heartwarming Moments In How I Met Your Mother

Going back to Season Eight, it had been teased by this point that Robin and Barney may end up getting engaged. We'd seen the reveals at the end of the previous seasons, and unless there was some editing trickery on behalf of the showrunners, we had an idea what was coming.

Then, the first half of the season seemed to go in a completely different direction. Despite breaking up with Quinn, Barney showed no interest in Robin and instead went for her co-worker Patrice. That is until 'The Final Page' - the mid-season finale.

After Ted tells Robin that Barney is planning to propose to Patrice, she heads to the top of the WWN building where she finds a missing page from the famous playbook on the roof, entitled 'The Robin'. There, she learns of Barney's manipulative, but well-intended scheme to show his love for her, but also to get her to profess her true feelings for him. She then turns to find him proposing to her.

It's a real shame the show ends the way it does in some ways, because this is such an incredible moment for two of the main characters, where they finally admit deep-rooted feelings for each other. It's also a brilliant pay-off for Barney - his schemes are one of the highlights of the show, and while this is arguably a bit far-fetched, it still fits the romance of it all nicely.
