The list goes on and on when it comes to TV shows that either outstayed their welcome, or just couldn't stick their landing. Friends however, proudly sits on the much, much shorter list of series that somehow found a way to finish perfectly.
Going into its tenth season, everyone knew that it was going to be the last, and after a decade it was always going to be emotional. There was so much potential for the episode to trip up or ruin something, but everyone got their chance to shine, and everyone got their happy ending.
Phoebe went and lived happily ever after with Mike, Ross and Rachel got together, Monica and Chandler had their twins and prepared to move out of the city, and Joey got the reassurance he needed that he and Chandler would always be best friends.
When the six of them left their keys on the side, left Monica's apartment for the very last time and headed down for one final coffee, it wasn't just the end of a great TV series. This was the end of an era, and the end of these characters that audiences genuinely felt like they got to know over the last ten years. Who knows if fans would be looking back on the show so fondly 17 years later if the finale had let it down like so many others?
