6. Time Travel Thanks To Doc Brown

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock sees Kirk and crew gain control of a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, commandeered from its commander, a Klingon named Kruge. Kruge was played by none other than Christopher Lloyd, who had starred in Back to the Future the previous year.

While Kruge would only appear in this one film, his ship would go on to return in the follow-up, The Voyage Home, which would see it turned into a time machine. Yes, the inventor of one of science fiction's most recognisable time-travel devices in the form of a DeLorean was the provider of yet another more of temporal transport.

It is most likely that this was a coincidence in casting, as The Voyage Home had not been conceived during the making of the Search for Spock, yet there was sure to be several jokes on-set about Doc Brown giving the Enterprise crew everything they needed to engage in a bit of time travel. Although, it must be said that the DeLorean was a little sturdier than the Bird-of-Prey, as the latter sank to the bottom of San Francisco bay after its arrival on Earth!
