10 Most Powerful Weapons In Doctor Who History
8. De-Mat Gun & Temporal Cannon
The dematerialization gun (or the De-Mat Gun, to save yourself some breath) was a weapon created by the Time Lords that had the ability to completely remove a target from time. Sort of like the cracks in Series 5, only in gun form.
It accomplished this by scanning the target's timeline to identify every particle of matter that came into contact with it throughout its existence, before remodeling the rest of existence to recreate reality without the target.
A water pistol, this ain't.
Technically, the target still existed outside time and reality once they were hit with the De-Mat Gun, as they no longer had a corporeal form. The Time Lords forbade using the weapon - except under extreme circumstances - so it required the Great Key of Rassilon to get it working.
The Daleks created a similar device called a Temporal Cannon, which could be attached to a Dalek Tank around the midsection, in place of its gunstick. Like the De-Mat Gun, it could completely eliminate a target from history. The Daleks made sure it couldn't be used on themselves, which was a very smart move.
