10 Most Romantic Star Trek Moments
2. Picard's Duets With Daren
Captain Picard rarely showed his romantic side during The Next Generation. Of course, he and Dr. Crusher had feelings for each other, but their responsibilities aboard the Enterprise kept them from pursuing their love (though, they got close in a few episodes, like Attached). They got married and divorced in the alternate future from All Good Thingsā¦, but we have to wait until season three of Star Trek: Picard to possibly learn what happened with their relationship in the prime timeline.
Picard's most romantic scene was actually between him and Lieutenant Commander Nella Daren in the Next Generation episode Lessons. Daren came aboard the Enterprise to serve as the Head of Stellar Sciences, and the two quickly bonded over their shared love of music.
Daren visited Picard in his quarters and noticed that he was playing his Ressikan flute from the episode The Inner Light. In that episode, Picard was forced to live an entire lifetime inside of a historical simulation of a long-dead alien society. He even had a family and grew into an old man. When he was brought back to reality, the Ressikan flute was the only artefact he had from his other life. Picard was initially reluctant to play in front of Daren, but he soon opened up.
The two of them began playing duets on a regular basis, with Picard on the flute and Daren playing piano. Daren brought Picard to Jefferies tube 25 (apparently the most acoustically perfect spot on the ship), and Picard taught her to play a folk song from his other life. This moment hit so deep because Picard rarely opened up about this experience with anyone. After his trauma in The Inner Light, he went right back to normal life, but Lessons gave him some much needed closure.
Their relationship didn't work out, but their duet in the Jefferies tube was one of the most romantic moments in Trek history.
