10 Most Satisfying Star Trek Moments

9. The Baseball

The final episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine's fifth season, Call To Arms sees Captain Sisko and his crew put up a valiant defence while trying to set up a cloaking, self-replicating minefield across the mouth of the Wormhole. Because they only have a few ships and the station itself, the crew of Deep Space Nine are overwhelmed by the combined forces of the Dominion and the Cardassians. Sisko comes to the realisation that he must begin abandoning the station.

After five years of making this place his home, of integrating and investing his commitment to Bajor and the people he loves there, Sisko is forced to abandon Deep Space Nine. Despite a valiant fight, they've lost this battle and know that it will be some time before they are able to return. The family of Deep Space Nine is cut in half, with Starfleet leaving but the Bajorans, Ferengi and even Jake Sisko staying behind.

Since Bajor signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion just before the attack, Major Kira, Odo and Quark greet Weyoun and Gul Dukat as they take ownership of the station. When the two leaders then approach the office that Sisko took from Gul Dukat many years before, they find a single baseball sitting on the desk.

Weyoun asks what it is. Gul Dukat responds simply that it's a message, that it means that Sisko intends to return. This war is far from over. Shivers down the spine.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
