The last chronological story to be entirely missing from the BBC’s archive, Fury From The Deep is the first tale to contain something the Doctor now would never be seen without. In episode one, the Doctor introduces viewers to his Sonic Screwdriver for the first time, using it to examine a gas pipe.

Fury From The Deep also has one of the coolest TARDIS entrances, with the TARDIS landing on water at the beginning of episode one; a clip which thankfully still exists for us to enjoy.

The surviving clips from the story - some cut from worldwide broadcasts of the serial for being too violent and graphic - wouldn't look out of place in an '80s horror B-movie and give us an insight into early Doctor Who’s darkest offering. Fury From The Deep was also the last story to be wiped, with the tapes being destroyed in late-1974.

Thanks to the efforts of hardcore early fans who recorded the audio, an animated reconstruction of the story alongside the original audio was released in 2020 by the BBC for fans to enjoy.
