1. Midnight
Midnight finds the Tenth Doctor going on a solo adventure on a planet called Midnight, befriending all the passengers on board the shuttle with him. However, things take a turn when a strange, invisible entity takes over the mind and body of Sky Silvertry, who manipulates the others onboard into turning against the Doctor to weaken his mind and soul to take over his body.
What makes this episode utterly terrifying is the unsettling atmosphere the characters find themselves. The unknown entity forces its host to repeat anything someone says, eventually becoming proficient enough to mimic their speech at the very same time. Midnight focuses on the fear and paranoia of the characters as the Doctor fights for his life against the unstoppable force.
The effectiveness at scaring people while watching this episode is brought from its straightforward storytelling, forcing the viewers to use their imagination as to what the evil force is. Midnight also showcases some of the best acting in the show, with David Tennant and the rest of the cast perfectly driving the plot without the need for action or overwhelming storylines.
