10 Most Underrated SpongeBob SquarePants Episodes

1. 'The Googly Artiste' (Season Eight)

Spongebob Squarepants
Nickelodeon

In the history of SpongeBob SquarePants, the show has oftentimes poked fun at the art world. Ever since classic episodes like Artist Unknown, the series has been more than willing to mock some of the more absurd aspects of art. 'The Googly Artiste' is the culmination of all of those episodes into one crisp package.

It's the story of Patrick accidentally becoming a sensation after a snobby art critic falls head over heels for his rock with googly eyes.

Everything from the critic to Patrick's later attempt to break out of a creative slump is perfect. It's just as biting as some of the best work from the first three seasons, and doesn't shy away from really hammering its subject matter.

In a world that just created a $120,000 banana taped to a wall, 'The Googly Artiste' feels both timely and exceptionally quick-witted. This episode is the art parody the world needs right now.
