There are many roles Kirshner may be known for be it her sexy Catholic schoolgirl dance in Exotica or her role as incestuous slut Catherine in Not Another Teen Movie. What many fans best remember her for, however, was her flip-floppy role as bisexual/lesbian Jenny Schecter in Showtime's The L Word. It seems that no matter what role she's most associated with one thing is for certain - they're all defined by a strong sexual charge. Before Mia grew into this archetype, however, she was featured in a more innocent role on Are You Afraid of the Dark. The episode "The Tale of the Hungry Hounds" featured Kirshner as a young girl who becomes possessed by a deceased aunt when she finds her old jockey uniform. Beckoned by some intangible force, the girl and her cousin enter a portal to another realm in which Kirshner's character becomes obsessed with "feeding the hounds." The episode isn't among the most memorable of the series but is worth watching to see a young Mia Kirshner give an ambient performance. Mia is currently starring in sci-fi series Defiance which has just announced a second season set to premiere next year.
