10 New TV Shows Of Fall 2017 Guaranteed To Succeed
9. The Orville
Love him or hate him, you can't deny that Seth MacFarlane has a pretty good track record when it comes to animated comedies. No, Bordertown was not an astounding success, but we've all made mistakes, and the number of seasons that Family Guy, American Dad, and God, even The Cleveland Show have all been on the air speak for themselves.
And now he's got a new show out called The Orville, which centers around the dysfunctional crew of an even more dysfunctional exploratory space ship 300 years in the future. Interestingly enough, this does feel like a bit of a departure for MacFarlane. Most significantly, it is a live action show with hour-long episodes, both firsts for the showrunner.
He's gone out of his way to downplay the inevitable comparisons with Futurama and Galaxy Quest, insisting that it has more in common with Star Trek, and although the show is first and foremost a comedy, it will hit other beats that may surprise audiences. The bottom line is though that even if this show was just Family Guy in space, it would still have a pretty large audience base to pull from.
