10 Reasons Why South Park is Better Than The Simpsons

7. It Has a Better Peripheral Cast

Outside of the Simpsons themselves, the peripheral cast is extremely hit and miss. Over the years some, Like Mr. Burns, Moe or Lenny and Carl, have been developed sure, but most of the time the tertiary characters have been boiled down to a catchphrase like €˜Worst stereotype€ ever!€™ like The Comic Book Guy, or €˜something in Spanish!€™ like Bumblebee Man. South Park though, over the years, has often taken the time to add multiple facets to characters that began as nothing. Take Clyde Donovan for example; Clyde began as simply another face to fill the four boys€™ classroom. He€™s still not a major player of course, but we actually know a little about what makes Clyde tick €“ he likes his porn (which is referenced but never focused on in more than a few episodes), and he often finds Cartman funny, telling us that he might be just as bigoted inside. None of these traits have usually been of massive importance to the overall plot of an episode, but the fact that they€™re there at all shows that decent levels of thought and care have gone in to crafting his character. And you€™ll find the same thing with pretty much the entire peripheral cast.
