10 Reasons Why What You Leave Behind Is The Best Star Trek Finale

5. Winn's Dismal Fate

Winn Adami, absolutely no one's favourite character, goes out in a blaze of, well not glory, but certainly a pillar of flame here. Consumed finally by the very being she professed to love, she is cast aside by a Pah-Wraith possessed Dukat, burning as she tries to switch sides once more.

Winn's fate was both a satisfactory end, as she had brought so much harm to people we had come to care about, and distinctly underwhelming. Killing off her character was always going to be a challenge for the writers - how could they do away with her? An explosion might have been a bit predictable, while a phaser or knife was a bit cliched.

Instead, they went for the demise we got. Winn, realising that the Pah-Wraiths have no interest in keeping her alive, nor bringing any prosperity to Bajor (something she claims to care about still), decides that she will burn the Text of the Kost-Amojen, sealing the Pah-Wraiths in the cave forever.

While she is gearing up for her heroic moment, Dukat, seemingly only just remembering she was there, casually takes back the book and, at his urging, a tendril of flame wraps itself around her, consuming her quickly and painfully.

Her's is a death that will not be remembered with honour. A petty and jealous leader, she was finally killed by the power she had sought
