10 Reasons Why What You Leave Behind Is The Best Star Trek Finale

2. Closure All Around

Star Trek What You Leave Behind
CBS/Paramount

As already discussed, the closing montage provides something of a closure for each of the characters, but there are stories that continue on after this. One such story is that of Ensign, now Lieutenant, Nog.

Aron Eisenberg was one of the integral pieces of DS9, with Nog becoming a fan favourite character along the way. His rise, from Ferengi trouble maker in the pilot, to the first Ferengi in Starfleet to eventually an officer is one, not just of triumph over assumptions (not unlike Spock and Worf) but of character growth that really summed up the success of Deep Space Nine.

What began as a background character became one of the emotional hearts of the show. Nog, stepping through those doors with the new pip on his collar, a final example of Sisko's pride in him, is as heartwarming a scene as the show has ever offered, with both Nog and Kira smiling at the situation.

Sadly, Eisenberg has of course passed away and this is the last scene with Nog that he got to play. He credited his time on the show as having changed his life, saying that there was a lot of himself in the character. He described the time as a dream come true, getting to act on great scripts and with great actors.

He is sadly missed.
