10 Rick And Morty Episodes Probably Made Out Of Spite

5. Ricklantis Mixup - S3 E7

Rick and Morty Rick Potion #9
Adult Swim

Known for being the most politically-themed episode to date, Ricklantis Mixup targets the issue of class struggles in modern-day society. A lot of season three's content is based on the 2016 presidential campaign, and this episode is no exception.

The episode gets the political ball rolling with an election for the Citadels democratic leadership; an obvious subversion of what was really going on in America at the time.

Rick is taken on by a sinister version of his own grandson who threatens Rick-society, and things get quite political after that. The episode tackles modern-day issues such as racism, capitalism and the societal hierarchy at the Citadel. There are themes of poverty and divide between the wealthy (the Ricks) and the impoverished (the Mortys) which is a definite reflection on the modern American world.

Despite the heavy polictical themes, this epsiode still manages to be successful on the comedy front while balancing some very real and important issues that aren’t always spoken about.

This episode showcases the creators ability to perfect their poltiucal and social commentary through the use of adult humour and cartoons.
