10 Rick And Morty Episodes Probably Made Out Of Spite
6. The Rickchurian Mortydate - S3 E10
The only president to appear in the Rick and Morty series is President Curtis. Obviously a rip-off of Obama, President Curtis emerged mid-election campaign when Trump was running for president. As a result, the character takes on the appearance of Obama but his personality is very much modelled on Trump's arrogance and stubbornness.
In the season's climax episode, POTUS is running a controversial surveillance campaign while keeping in touch with his drone strike fetish. The episode is more playful than spiteful but it does poke fun at the presidential campaign and mock both presidents for their shortcomings.
Evil Morty even makes an appearance and manages to blackmail everyone into making him president, which feels vaguely familiar to how the 2016 election campaign went with Trump. This episode wasn’t the creator's first brush with politics and it certainly won't be the last. POTUS has appeared in a number of other episodes and will probably return for some more cameos in the future.
It is theorised that Obama exists in an alternate reality because during the episode in which Snuffles can talk, Summer starts to record him when she thinks he says “I love Obama” - which shines a more favourable light on the 44th President.
