10 Ridiculous TV Premises You Won't Believe Were Real
7. Work It
The premise of Work It is nothing too outlandish. Two working class fellas struggling in the job market come to the conclusion that the current economic climate is more kind on women than men. Accordingly, they dress up as women and find themselves with cushy jobs in the pharmaceutical business - and all they have to do is spend 40 hours a week living a lie.
More outlandish is the fact that Work It was aired in 2012. This sort of lazy sexism may have flown in the ‘80s, but by today’s standards, Work It was a pretty gross throwback. It caught flack from all angles, most notably LGBT groups who called the show out for trivialising other struggles of transgender people in the workplace.
The show was also pilloried by people who simply had taste. Work It lasted all of two episodes (dropping two million viewers between the first and second) and was quietly removed from the airwaves. It manages to pull off being both badly offensive and offensively bad at the same time, which is an achievement if nothing else.
