10 Science Fiction TV Episodes To Watch While Pregnant
7. Lost Ji Yeon
There's something about pregnancy that suddenly makes all life's questions seem critical, like they cannot be put on the back burner any longer. When Jin finds out that his wife Sun had an affair off the island and that her baby may not be his, he is faced with a crisis. This plot is intersected in usual LOST fashion with flashes to another time, when Sun is giving birth in a hospital while Jin rushes to get a doll for the baby. This episode is crafted and edited in such a precise way that it is difficult to describe it without seeing it. You know that everything will be okay because Sun is on the mainland giving birth in a safe place, and obviously her and Jin's relationship is intact because of his excitement at rushing back to her. As a viewer, it seems as though you are watching the end of the argument cut between its beginnings, though near the end the couple resolve their differences on the island and Sun reveals that the child is truly Jin's. But it is in the episode's conclusion that the twist is shown (spoiler alert): the intercutting story was not entirely a flash-forward. Sun's labour does take place in the future when she has access to a hospital, but the scenes with Jin are in fact a flashback to an arbitrary moment when he had to buy a doll for a different child. The final scene shows Sun accompanied by Hurley and her newborn daughter Ji Yeon, as they go to visit Jin now a headstone at a cemetery. The episode's heart-wrenching ending shows that sometimes mistakes must be forgiven for the good of those you love, because you never know when they can be taken away.
