10 Science Fiction TV Episodes To Watch While Pregnant
6. Star Trek: The Next Generation Disaster
When an impact causes the Enterprise's systems to shut down, the crew finds themselves marooned on different parts of the ship, each character faced with problems not in their normal realm of expertise. Perhaps the most notable of these predicaments faces Keiko O'Brien, who goes into labour with only the gruff Klingon Worf to guide her along. Every pregnant woman has some level of fear of labour, particularly first-timers. Many women find comfort in the advancements brought to us by medical science in the safety of a hospital room. Keiko, however, is placed in a situation where much of the highly advanced technology isn't present, let alone her husband or even a person of medicine. "This is not a good time, Keiko," says the stern voice of Lieutenant Worf, but as Keiko points out, "it is not up for debate". "Disaster" does a great job showing the unpredictability of pregnancy and just how complex labour can be to understand for those who haven't faced it. Worf claims that he took part in a training simulation where he assisted in the birth of a child, but soon finds that every delivery can be different. "The computer simulation was not like this," he complains, "That delivery was very orderly!"
