10 Secret Subplots You Learn From Watching The Office Deleted Scenes

9. Erin Ruins Pam's Painting (And Kelly Fixes It)

The season six episode "Mafia" features an hysterical deleted scene where Erin (Ellie Kemper) ruins Pam's (Jenna Fischer) water colour painting of the Dunder Mifflin building which Michael (Steve Carell) memorably bought from Pam in season three's "Business School."

While cleaning the painting's frame, Erin accidentally sprays cleaning fluid onto the painting, and while she's distracted by Creed (Creed Bratton), the paint can be seen running, effectively destroying the piece.

A panicked Erin then gets Kelly (Mindy Kaling) to "fix" the painting, resulting in her adding a rainbow and sun, much to Erin's frustration.

To make matters worse, Kelly only agrees to help in exchange for Erin's necklace, a necklace which contains instructions in case Erin suffers an epileptic seizure. Yikes.

In addition to being cut, the scene was decisively ripped out of canon in the series finale, when Pam takes the very much in-tact watercolour painting with her.

Despite being deleted, however, this subplot continues to be referenced in Mafia's episode synopsis on Netflix and other streaming platforms.
