10 Similarities You Never Noticed In Family Guy And The Simpsons

1. Homer And Peter Both Talk To God About American Football

Homer meets God when he appears in a dream to chastise him for skipping church whereas Peter meets God when he tracks him down across four countries and gets Death to take him to Heaven. The circumstances could hardly be more different. But on both occasions God is robed, bearded, and, weirdly, into American football. Peter tracks him down specifically to argue about the Patriots€™ results, and God reveals that not only is he a fan of the sport, but he takes such an interest that he€™s fixing results to punish coach Bill Belichick. In The Simpsons, God brings it up himself, saying he€™d sometimes €œrather be watching football€ than go to church. He does, though, seem to have less knowledge than his Quahog equivalent, having to ask Homer if St. Louis still have a team. It€™s not shocking that both men end up meeting God in shows known for their loose boundaries, but it€™s a weird coincidence that the first thing they talk to him about is American football. It€™s not like the characters talk about it all the time; they€™re fans, but it rarely comes up in conversation. Perhaps there€™s something about God that brings out the sports fan in you. Or it€™s just the classic way of talking to a guy you just met; you don€™t have anything in common, so you gamble that he€™s a sports fan and hope you can avoid an awkward silence.
