5. Both Feature Sailors Who Are Missing Body Parts
It probably wont have escaped your attention that these shows are the first since Gilligans Island to feature old sea-dogs as regular characters, but, more strangely, both live (relatively) normal lives despite missing a significant number of body parts. Seamus problems are more noticeable, as hes missing all of his limbs. Explanations offered have included his father being a tree, and James Woods getting high and eating his arms and legs. The Simpsons Sea Captain is also missing a leg, and has a glass eye. In fact, hes claimed before to have two glass eyes, which would make his disability equally as ridiculous and unlikely as Seamus. If thats true, its unclear who has the worse deal: Seamus probably has the more traumatic backstory, but then again the Sea Captains apparently been married to Agnes Skinner.
